Varsity Program

Varsity Program

The operations of UQBC were severely interrupted in early 2022 by heavy flooding of the Brisbane River which caused damage to both the structure and the contents of the boatshed. For several weeks following the floods, use of the river was constrained as a result of debris which posed a threat to all river craft.

Conditions in the river are now largely back to normal but the UQBC boatshed is still under reconstruction and the boating pontoon is scheduled for replacement in coming weeks. These disruptions have rendered our various rowing programs – Learn to Row, Intermediate and Varsity - unviable for the moment.

We regret that we are unable to offer these programs in 2022 but anticipate being back in full operation in 2023. Please keep in touch with us through our website  (at  info@uqbc.org ) and social media and we hope to be able to assist you next year.

UQBC offers a rowing program specifically for UQ students who may have rowed before and wish to continue their involvement in the sport without becoming members of the Boat Club. Participants will be assembled into crews based on experience and competitive intent with the overall focus being on rowing for fun, fitness and social connection. The program will normally run for 8 weeks with 2-3 on-water training sessions per week.

Novice oarsmen and women may be accommodated through the Varsity Program or alternatively through UQBC’s regular Learn 2 Row course.
